Why inventory is a growth problem

A small inventory error is easy to absorb at low volume. Nobody notices a handful of mismatched counts when a brand is shipping fifty orders a day. At five thousand orders a day, the same error rate turns into a support queue, a returns backlog, and a founder asking why the numbers in three different spreadsheets don't agree.

Growth doesn't create new inventory problems — it removes the slack that was hiding the old ones. The businesses that scale cleanly are the ones that fixed visibility and accuracy while the stakes were still low, not the ones that hoped the problem would stay small.

Treating inventory as an operations detail instead of a growth input is the most common reason scaling brands hit a wall they didn't see coming.
